About the course

From first push to basic ramp tricks

The course gives skaters a safe, positive route into coaching. It prepares you to work as a coach or instructor, taking new skaters from their first step on a board up to basic ramp tricks.

The focus is on participation rather than performance. The aim is simple: get more young people on skateboards and into a healthier, more active lifestyle.

What you'll learn

  • Planning, delivering and evaluating safe coaching sessions
  • How to teach beginner skateboarding
  • Writing a lesson plan
  • Anatomy of a skateboard
  • Teaching skatepark etiquette

£200 per person

Includes one year's Skateboard GB coach membership, with public liability insurance to coach anywhere in the UK.

Online plus one day

An online course on the principles of coaching, then one face-to-face day, usually at a weekend, 10am to 5pm.

What you'll get

The skills to plan, deliver and evaluate sessions in skateparks, schools or the community.

Before you sign up

Who can take the course?

  • You must be 18 or older
  • You can stand, stop, turn and push a skateboard with confidence
  • You've completed an online safeguarding course
  • You have a valid DBS check (needed for your membership)
  • You bring your own skateboard and helmet on the day
